Position Summary: This position is responsible for assisting patients in clinic with the fitting and application of DME products as prescribed by the physicians.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Fitting and application of various DME and orthopedic assistive devices.
  • Educates patients and family members regarding application/wearing of orthotic devices and serves as a resource for patients via telephone.
  • Educates patients and family members regarding billing for DME products and ensures that ABN is completed for Medicare patients.
  • Works cooperatively with physicians and Patient Care Coordinators to ensure quality orthopedic care. 
  • Maintains inventory of DME products and orders for all vendors. 
  • Maintains patient care environment including receiving, storing supplies/inventory of DME; cleans and stocks exam room and storage room.
  • Provides quality orthopedic care in the cast rooms for patients requiring immobilization including: applying, removing and assessing need for change of all types of orthopedic casts and immobilization devices.

  • Willingly provides coverage to department, staying beyond scheduled ending time when clinic schedule demands it, volunteering to cover time off or unexpected absences, maintaining workflow in department without direct supervision.

  • Is considerate of others with regard to taking breaks or meal periods, use of computer and telephone and noise in department.
  • Initiative:

  • Seeks out assignments and assumes additional duties when patient census permits.
  • Proposes new ideas or suggests improvement to processes.
  • Attempts to problem solve independently before involving supervisor or vendors.
  • Provides support and coverage to department/locations. 
  • May perform other duties as indicated by location to facilitate patient care or fill down time productively. 
  • Policies and Procedures:

  • Knows and complies with policies and procedures as enumerated in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook and policies and procedures documents.
  • Provides assistance and support to leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary. 
  • Actively participates in training, and conducting day to day work activity by adhering to all policies and procedures as enumerated in compliance and risk management programs. 
  • Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure Required:
    Orthopedic Technologist or Athletic Trainer may be appropriate educational background, however, directly related on-the-job training and experience may also be considered. Previous experience with insurance pre-certification process and knowledge of coding specific to DME desired. Previous casting experience preferred. Must maintain State license as indicated (ATC) and current CPR/AED certification.
